This design is adapted from a gate-fold invitation I designed for this event last year. I work with a print broker for this customer’s design, but in the process of design I always correspond with them regularly, and especially in this project!
The organization provides supportive assistance to pregnant women from testing, health care and counseling to housing and adoptive services if necessary. This event is their annual benefit to raise funds for the next year’s operations.
We started out with a totally different idea—flowers, butterflies—but because last year was their 36th year they wanted the event to be a celebration. We ended up with a photo of Pittsburgh at night, which I had taken around the holidays in 2007.
To make it really look like a celebration I added fireworks I’ve photographed at other events in the black area above. I was a little concerned because if the fireworks were really that high in the air they’d be a danger to passing aircraft, but no one seemed worried about it, and the effect was popular.
